Client
Our client is a joint project created by volunteers from multiple groups who want to make things better for the country by creating engaging and easy-to-use digital voter resources that provide voters the opportunity to compare and choose candidates based on the solutions they support.
Problem
The founders wanted to make sure that the website and its contents which consists mainly of educational videos explaining the challenges to democracy and candidate guide for the 2020 Texas state and federal elections – reach millions of currently unregistered, uninformed, or confused Texans and drive better-informed voters to the polls. Coupled with the pandemic, our clients aimed to be able to educate voters on how the process will be with this new variable in the mix.
Solution
During the election period of 2020, where the pandemic has evidently affected the usual voting procedures we once knew thus, we were tasked to make sure that the site we will code will efficiently deliver the necessary information our clients wanted to convey.
The site has been segmented into different basic questions that can help new voters (and even old ones) navigate through the voting process prior to the election. Like having enumerated what is needed to vote, and checking their registration statuses. Not only this, but the users are also able to access more in-depth information like who are the candidates in their area or how can their vote help create change.
Aside from the basic information about the voting process, our clients also made sure that everyone is properly informed of the health protocols that the pandemic came with.
The most important feature so far is the candidate search feature that enables a voter to know who ran for office in their state. By simply entering their data, they will be able to access the names of the candidates with their accolades and a collection of answers about certain issues – which can help a voter decide better on who to vote for.

Implementations Made
Our team implemented pixel-perfect web designs based on their mockups, creating responsive pages that rendered perfectly on mobile and desktop devices. Improvements to their interactive candidate search functionality were also applied. An API integration that allowed voters anywhere in the state to look up their nearest polling place, its address, and its hours.
In line with that, made improvements to the section presenting the issues which allowed users to select their preference (‘For’ or ‘Against’) for each issue, and then compare their stances to those of the candidates.
Email and social media sharing functionality we also implemented. Additionally, we implemented analytics tracking to allow the organization’s marketing consultant to track activity and provide recommendations.
Throughout the process, we consulted closely with stakeholders in the organization, as well as third-party vendors to complete the features required and meet everyone’s needs, and we took a project that was behind schedule when we joined to be complete and ready to deploy on time for the election.

Result
Our client was very pleased with how their website turned out – especially how we were able to implement the candidate search feature to work the way they expected and envisioned it to be.
