Case Study: Standardized Operations Into a Single Platform

Client – Gist Labs

Gist Labs is a software (technology and culture) consulting company based in Austin, TX. They are a group of experienced professionals passionate about building the right software really well.

Problem

Gist Labs was in need of additional expertise to help audit their client’s e-commerce platforms. They were working with an international company that has operations all over the globe. Because of the spread-out nature of the company, each country’s operations ran more or less independently. They were looking to consolidate the operations and formulate a standardized operation process. One division in one country was using one online ordering platform, and another division in another country was using another one. They wanted to standardize on a single platform, so they were comparing them, to see which would become the standard to be adopted everywhere.

However, each group was heavily invested in the tools they were using, and changing platforms for a large multinational corporation is a very costly endeavor at the best of times.  Switching to the wrong platform could be disastrous.

Gist Labs’ client was looking for the best possible way to fix all the aforementioned issues.

Solution

We provided subject matter expertise in the various platforms utilized by their tools.  We manually reviewed the code repositories for each project and ran various static code analysis tools.  The results of all this research were compiled in a report and presentation delivered to the various stakeholders at Gist Labs and their clients.

Result

After we presented our analysis to the Gist Labs team and their clients, they used this information to make an informed decision and standardized all their operations on a single platform.  They were able to leverage the process to work with the original developer to make additional modifications and improvements to meet their needs.  And of course, since all operations were unified on that single platform, all of them were able to take advantage of these modifications.
